The mission of Wabash Valley Corrctional Facility is to incarcerate adult male inmates within a safe and secure environment while providing the offender population with a opportunities for self-improvement.
Ground was broken for the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility on October 29, 1990. The following year the department of corrections announced plans to build another prison adjacent to the site and share some of the facilities. Construction was completed in 1997 at a total cost of 123 million dollars.
It is a maximum security facility with an inmate population of 2,125 and a staff of over 700.
Theperimeter of the facility is surrounded by two 14-foot chain-link fences with razor wire. There are intrusion alarms and microwave detection systems between the fences. There are seven armed towers and two armed vehicles patrol the perimeter at all times.
